5: An American, angry at the imminent papal visit to Canada, bombed Mtl’s Central Station, killing 3 and wounding in excess of 30 people. The bomb, which was planted in a bank of lockers near a gate where Ottawa-bound travellers queued, exploded at 10:22am. Police speculated that the powerful bomb comprised a pipe filled with gunpowder, possibly also gasoline, and with dynamite attached.
